Open Cell or Semi-Open Cell Foams or Sponges Open-cell foam is created when the cell walls, or surfaces of the bubbles, are broken and air fills all of the spaces in the material.  This can occur during the foaming process or as a secondary process such as “Crushing” the foam to physically burst the bubbles or by Reticulation – Thermal Reticulation a process which explodes out the cell windows or Quenching, which chemically etches out the cell windows. Typical open cell foams are Polyurethane foams, Melamine foams, open cell natural sponges and semi-open cell PVC foam, PVC/Nitrile, EPDM or latex foam. All of these foams..........
