Impregnated Foams

Impregnated Foam

PU Foams can be impregnated or post treated to create a foam product with unique characteristics to enhance the performance of the foam in some way, or simply to act as a carrier. These are special grades, some of which require larger than normal minimum quantities in order to pass through a specially prepared impregnation bath.

Typical impregnated foam products:

  • High FR Reticulated
We can impregnate reticulated foams with a highly fire retardant compound to improve the performance and can achieve Class 1 or UL94 VO specification. Uses are in air filtration
  • High FR PU
Polyurethane foam can be impregnated with highly flame retardant compounds, to meet BS476 Class O building regulations and UL94 V1 & VO. Their uses include acoustic lining in Ductwork, Generator Housings. Adhesive backings can be supplied
  • PVC Impregnated Reticulated Foam
Often used as the coalescing media in compressed air filters, Reticulated PU foam is impregnated with a plastisol. The foams offer resistance to compressor oils, moisture and are available in a range of colours as well as finished sewn or welded socks. The PVC allows for HF welding of the foam with good effect
  • Acrylic Impregnated Foam - Expandafoam
PU foams with an acrylic to impart slow recovery characteristics. Very similar to Compriband, these foams can be used as a primary or secondary seal in building joints, or for vibration dampening in various industries. They can be used as an expansion joint filler and to create seals where uneven surfaces are present.
  • Activated Carbon Reticulated Foam
Impregnation of activated carbon on to open cell foams produces fume absorbing materials, with wide ranging applications which include cooker hood filters, face masks, pond filters and NBC suits.
  • Conductive Foams
Polyurethane foams can be impregnated to make them electrically conductive, to exhibit a surface resistance between 103 and 105 ohms. They are ideal for packaging static sensitive devices during transit. Two grades are available soft for physical protection and rigid for pin insertion.
  • Heat and Moisture Exchange Foam
Reticulated open cell foams (60 and 90 pores per inch) can be impregnated with calcium chloride to produce one of the most efficient HME materials available. Performances up to 35mg/l are achievable.
  • Semi-Rigid Filter Foam
Reticulated open cell foams (10 - 30ppi) can be impregnated with a stiff compound to create a self supporting filter media. The incorporation of activated charcoal is possible within the compound.
  • Anti-static Foams
Both rigid and soft grades of pink anti-static foams are possible for less critical electronics packaging. Resistance is in the order of 1010 ohms
